September 15, 1960 - March 20, 2024
In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, Brian Douglas Meakin. He was born September 15, 1960, and passed peacefully while surrounded by his work family on March 20, 2024.
Brian is survived by his best friend and true love, his wife of 47 years Joanne Meakin, his daughter Malorie (Aaron), granddaughters Lily and Charlee whom he loved so much, son Nicholas (Tasha), and his older brother Rick (Judy), as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mom Olga, his dad Mike, and his big sister Sandi.
Brian came to Sparwood as a young boy and grew up here. As an adult he worked for Kaiser Resources until they shut down. Following a couple of odd jobs, he began working for Rayco Steele in the early 90's and has been there ever since.
Brian and Joanne met in Sparwood in 1978; Brian always knew he would marry Joanne. They married on July 27, 1985, and in September 1986 they welcomed their first child Malorie. Nineteen months later their son Nic completed the family.
Brian was looked up to by many, and several thought of him as a second dad. He was the most patient, kind, caring, gentle man one could ever know. Anyone who had the pleasure of having Brian in their lives were truly blessed to have known such a great man. He would do anything for anyone.
A casual celebration of life to honor the wonderful man he was will be held at Cherished Memories "Serenity Chapel" on Friday, April 5th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Please join us in gathering to remember Brian and all the good times. We welcome all those that knew and loved dad to come.
The Meakin Family wants to thank Rayco Steele for taking good care of him, and for loving him as family. Thank you to all the doctors and paramedics who did everything they could. Thank you to John and Lynda Gawryluk for your kind words and helping us navigate this incredibly hard time.
Also, thanks for all the condolences and kind words about our dad.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
