All you need to know about emergency preparedness will be easily accessed as the East Kootenay Emergency Management Program will host an Emergency Preparedness Fair in Cranbrook on May 4.

The fair will be held in the parking lot of Western Financial Place (1777 2 St N, Cranbrook) 10 a.m. – 2 p/m. The services in attendance include the East Kootenay Emergency Management Program, East Kootenay FireSmartTM Program, East Kootenay Amateur Radio Club, Cranbrook Fire Rescue, BC Wildfire Service, Cranbrook RCMP, BC SPCA, Canadian Red Cross, Cranbrook Search and Rescue, The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting.

The timing right as May 5 to 11 is Emergency Preparedness Week.

“Emergencies can happen at any time, and there are things we can do to make sure we are better prepared to respond,” said RDEK Protective Services Manager, Christina Carbrey. “It’s important for people to know which risks we face in this area and what they can do to help their family prepare for them. This fair will help residents learn which services are available for support and how they can start to formulate those necessary emergency plans for their households.”

RDEK staff will be there to help people sign for the Regional Evacuation Notification System, Voyent Alert, which will have the annual system test on Friday, May 10 at 2 p.m.

This is an event for the whole family as many of the series will have their emergency response apparatus on display, as well as games for the kids, prizes and more, all while you learn about keeping your family safe.
