A tug-o-war contest was another highlight of the day.

The third annual Family Fishing Derby for Kids with Cancer raised $21,000 for local children.

The event at Horseshoe Lake, on January 9, gave the entire East Kootenay community the opportunity to fight back against cancer. Along with the main ice fishing attraction, many activities and an abundance of prizes kept the 1,800 in attendance entertained and having fun.

Jim Hong won the top prize, a 14 ft Lund fishing boat and trailer, after reeling in a 58 cm fish.
