I Loving Memory ~
This October 8th the Turcasso family is remembering their Dad, Nonno and Great Nonno - Mario Turcasso.
Mario Turcasso was born in San Giovanni in Fiore in Calabria, Italy where he met his wife Maria (Oliverio) Turcasso and they welcomed their first three children, Giovanni (John), Catherine and Victoria. In 1953, Mario's relative Joe Perri, who was the owner of the Central Hotel recruited Mario to work at the Coal Creek Coal Mine in Fernie, BC. Leaving his family behind and making the journey to Canada Mario lived at the Central for three years and saved enough money to bring his family to join him in Fernie in September of 1956. They lived a fulfilling life, welcoming two more children, Pina and Rosana (Rose) and developing many strong friendships with other families making a life in Fernie as well. Mario loved his family and enjoyed hosting others at his home. He is deeply missed and never forgotten.
