September 15, 1926 - October 7, 2022
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Ehrler on October 7, 2022 at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie, BC at the age of 96.
Mary was born in a small village near Warsaw, Poland on September 15, 1926, to Sophia and Joseph Romanchuk.
Mary's family emigrated to High Prairie, AB in 1931, where they faced many hardships.
Mary lost her parents at a young age. She took nursing training in Edmonton and eventually moved to Blairmore, AB to work. It was here in 1950 that she met and married the love of her life, Karl Ehrler, from Fernie. Mary and Karl later moved to Fernie where they raised their three children.
Mary started work at the Fernie & District Hospital in 1968. She was a dedicated and caring nurse who treated all her patients with compassion. She retired in 1988.
Mary treasured her children and grandchildren and loved family get-togethers. She enjoyed meeting people and had many close friends. Mary was kind and generous to all who knew her. She volunteered many hours at the Fernie Hospital, Rocky Mountain Village, and the Holy Family Catholic Church.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Karl in 1998 and her sister Alice in 2011.
Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her son Karl Jr. (Chris) Ehrler (Sparwood, BC); daughters Marilyn (Mike) Loseth (Blairmore, AB) and Susan (David) Grieve (Cranbrook, BC); grandchildren Chuck and Joseph Deluca, Edward and Eric Ehrler, Carolyn (Cory) Harbak, Emily Grieve, Janine (Sean) Moore; great-grandchildren Jadyn Deluca and Johan Harbak; and special friend Mary Southgate.
