With loved ones at her bedside, Raffie Sowchuk passed away peacefully at the Rocky Mountain Village on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the age of 82 years. Raffie was born in Fernie on September 20, 1928 to parents Assunta and Sam Marasco.
Raffie is survived by her four children: Susan (Russell) Pask, Diana (Edward) Safarik, Jerry (Audrine) Sowchuk and Teri (Rob) Doka, 10 grandchildren: Rusan (Randy) Polacik, Murray Pask, Kveta ((Aaron) Rose, Bryan Safarik, Jacob Safarik, Garret, Graeme and Erika Sowchuk and Geoffrey and Adam Doka, and 3 great grandchildren: Paige and Sydney Polacik and Owen Rose. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband Fred Sowchuk.
Raffie was passionate about her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved them dearly. Loving and supportive, she enjoyed watching their school, music and sporting events. Rosen Lake also held a very special place in Raffie’s heart, a place filled with many precious memories that will continue to be treasured by all who loved her.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at the Holy Family Parish on Monday, January 3, 2011 with Father Bart van Roijen, Celebrant. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Elk Valley Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 670, Fernie, BC V0B 1M0. Arrangements entrusted to Cherished Memories Funeral Services Ltd.
