Raffaella Iolanda (Yolanda) Aquila passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 19, 2022.
Yolanda was predeceased by her husband, Mario Sr., her grandson Jason Wutke, and her great grandson, Jaxson Rousselle.
She is survived by her daughters Lina (Gordie) McNab & Maria (Cam) Rousselle; her sons, Tony (Julie) Aquila & Mario (Maureen) Aquila; granddaughters Monique (Darcy) Mattersdorfer, Carla (Daren) Thomas, Holly (Gerry) Festa, Taylor (Evan) Burgess; grandsons Michael (Brett) Rousselle, Derek (Jennifer) Aquila, Justin (Shelby) Aquila, Jamie (Baylee) Aquila, Justin Mellor, Collin (Mylene) Harlick; great grandchildren Tanner, Montanna, Ava, Sawyer, Jonas, Kutcher, Crew, Boston, Connor, Violet, Roman, Max, Raphael, Braxton & Siena.
Yolanda was born October 9, 1925 in Lappano, Cosenza, Italia. On April 17, 1962 she immigrated to Canada to establish roots and raise her family for the opportunity of greater prosperity. Those roots are solid with a large and loving family that is so grateful for the sacrifices that were made by Yolanda and Mario Sr. when leaving their homeland to relocate.
Yolanda loved the simple things in life, good food and conversation, and was known for her amazing Italian cooking. Weekly fresh bread and Sunday pasta dinners were a family tradition and often, she would make pasta by hand with a special skill (and unique rolling pin) that we all envied. You simply didn't miss Pasta Sunday!
She had an amazing and full life surrounded by love and family.
We are so grateful for the care and support received in her final days. Dr. Soetaert had a special place in her heart and one of her last wishes was to be sure we don't forget to make the Italian Scalili at Christmas for Dr. Soetaert, his staff & family!
