As the final dryland camp of the summer came to a close on August 25th, the BC Alpine Ski Team trainers realized how much improvement every girl on the team made since their first days of “pumping iron”. The older girls, loved seeing the youngsters grow into professional weight lifters as well as become their good friends. “This summer has been as enjoyable as summer camp, yet as painful as navy seal training” says Gregor Družina Women’s BC Ski Team, Head Coach.

he Fernie Ghostriders are pleased to announce the hiring of Jeff Zmurchyk to our hockey staff. Jeff, a former Ghostrider defenseman, played 4 years of Junior hockey including time in Fernie, Merritt and Trail (BCHL).

The Fernie Rod and Gun Club’s 3-D Fun shoot and the Elk Valley Extreme 3-D Shoot drew a record number of shooters last weekend.

A fun day for families and a local fundraiser that has brought in thousands of dollars to the community, the annual Fernie Lion’s Demolition Derby will continue its more than 30-year tradition, Sept. 4, 2011 at the Fernie Rodeo Grounds.

Jo-Anne placed first in both the womens doubles with partner Sara McFarlane and first in mixed doubles with parnter and husband Marcell Labelle. Jo-Anne demonstrated spry athleticism and gracious sportsmanship. Congratulations on winning Elk Valley’s Athlete of the Week!
